H & O Services Participates in Community Leaf Pick-up Program

Citing financial constraints, the City of Findlay once again decided to suspend its annual leaf pick-up services for area residents.  This left the task to area volunteers who showed up for a one-day community collection coordinated by mayor-elect Lydia Mihalik.  Dubbed “Leaf Relief,” the program involved splitting the City into multiple quadrants, which volunteers signed up to cover.  A key player in the volunteer effort was H & O Services, which utilized its front-load refuse vehicle to collect hundreds of bagged leaves placed along the City streets.  The company also donated roll-off containers which were used at designated collection areas in the community.   Collected leafs were then transported to the City’s compost facility off of High Street.

This marks the third year in which H & O Services has participated in the community led leaf pick-up program.

H & O Services Awarded Waste Contracts for Construction of Millstream and Glenwood Schools

Findlay-based H & O Services has confirmed that it is the successful bidder for the waste disposal services on the new Millstream and Glenwood Schools.  Both projects are being undertaken in accordance with The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).  As relates to waste disposal, this requires a comprehensive recycling plan for construction and demolition debris along with continued reporting throughout the construction process.  “Apart from being a locally based hauling company, we operate our own material recovery facility, which is only a few miles from each of these two projects,” said Doug Tiell of H & O Services.  Added Tiell, “Like our local schools, we see sustainability playing an important role in all aspects of our society going forward.  This is precisely why our company has made continued investments in recycling equipment over the past several years.”
Privately owned and part of “The Kirk Family of Companies,” H & O Services provides waste collection and recycle services to commercial and industrial customers throughout Ohio.

University Researches Eco-friendly Animal Bedding Made by H & O Services

Taking cardboard it collects from various sources in the community, H & O Services manufactures an eco-friendly animal bedding which it sells under the name “Grampy Joe’s Stall Fixin’s.”  That product is now the subject of a research program at the University of Findlay, which is comparing the performance characteristics of the chipped cardboard bedding versus traditional wood shavings.  “We have always operated under the belief that our chipped cardboard outperforms wood shavings in terms absorbency, dust particulate, and value,” says Ed Romatowski of H & O Services.  “Once the University completes its work, we should hopefully have written proof of that fact.”
